Perms have made a comeback! Not to worry though because they don't resemble that smelly, frizzy Toni your Mom had! Nowadays texture waves/perms have come a long way. Firstly, they are ammonia-free, therefore they don't smell as bad and are much gentler on your hair. Secondly, unlike in the 80's, we now have large size rods - this means that you can have that texture wave/perm for added body, or for soft natural-looking curls.

A texture wave will provide movement and curl to your hair. You're hair will have more volume and hold a curl from using a curling iron or round brushing - even if you flat iron your hair you will have more texture as a result. If you have short hair, your hair has to be at least 3 inches long to wrap around the perm rods.

Maintenance

Maintenance is very important with keeping the great results achieved from your texture wave/perm. Firstly, and most importantly, do not wash your hair for 48 hours. If you do feel the need to freshen up your hair, simply wet it down and run some conditioner through it and rinse that out - this will freshen up your hair without using shampoo. The reason why we suggest you don't not use shampoo 48 hours is that it can take the perm out.

It is highly recommended for best results to use professional shampoo and conditioner that is suited for curly, chemically processed, or permed hair. A mask treatment might be necessary if your hair is long, and has had a color or highlights. Also, a styling product is a must! Whether it be a curl cream, styling gel, or a mousse product you will have superior results as it dries and forms a curl.

Longevity of Your Wave

How long your texture wave/perm lasts depends entirely on the original length of your hair and size of rods used. We usually find that short hair will last about three to four months. This is because with short hair you are getting it trimmed more often, therefore the permed part of the hair is being cut off as it grows longer. With mid to longer hair you can expect your perm to last quite a bit longer because it is not being trimmed as much therefore the permed part will not be trimmed off.
