Balayage
What is Balayage?
The Balyage technique is essentially using free-hand painting of hair color or lightener onto the hair. Balayage gives your hair that beachy sun-kissed result of brightness and dimension - just as if you spent most of your time on a sunny beach! When our hair is exposed to a lot of sunlight, the results are a beautiful, natural highlighted effect. So this is where the Balayage technique comes in - we can create the same results in our hair salon! Balayage doesn't have harsh demarcation lines as it grows out - that means less visits to the salon for touch-ups. Keeping your hair healthy will still require a trim and a refresher of gloss/toner and conditioning mask approximately every 5-6 weeks.
You might also be surprised to know that Balayage isn't just for long hair with blonde results. To Balayage hair it can be all different lengths - even a pixie cut! Hair can be taken darker for more depth - rich browns, reds, or vivids look amazing. Balayage is also excellent for those wanting a smooth return back to their grey.
Balayage vs Highlights
Balayage paints color only on the surface of hair and not at all close to the roots versus traditional highlighting uses foils that go right up to the scalp. With traditional highlighting, heavier amounts of color or lightener is used to saturate the hair. If you are a brunette don't expect to be a bright blonde with Balayage...if this is your desired outcome, then traditional highlights would be recommended. Remember, Balayage gives that more natural lightning effect.
Benefits of Balayage
The biggest benefit is because it's so natural looking, like the sun would highlight your hair, there is no need to get touch-ups as often! Balayage can last as long as four to five months depending on the color, texture, and length of hair to begin with.
Balayage is a Specialty
It is important to mention that Balayage is a specialty technique and that not all hairstylists are trained and experienced in this technique - fortunately the hairstylists at Hair Works Co are - give balayage a try - the results are amazing!
